James Howard “Slim” Stockton, 74 of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018. He was born on January 31, 1944 in Burkesville, KY to the late Leo and Sarah (Pharis) Stockton. Slim was drafted into the US Army and served honorably during the Vietnam War. He returned back to Indianapolis where he continued working for Allison Transmission as a repairman; he devoted 42 ½ years of service to the company before his retirement in 2009. Slim was a member of the Eagles Lodge and American Legion, both of Beech Grove. He especially enjoyed attending auctions and supporting the Kentucky Wildcats. Slim loved spending time in his vegetable garden at his country home in Burkesville.
Slim is survived by his loving wife of 48 ½ years; JoAnn (Bailey) Stockton; sons, Jeffrey (Sara) Stockton and Leo (Cassy) Stockton; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Seth, Ethan and Cooper. Slim is also survived by his sister, Golda Staley of Louisville, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jamie Spears, Grace Wray, Olean Lackey, Martha Rush, Regina Ross and Joe Stockton.
Visitation for Slim will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 4-8pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East. Funeral services will take place Saturday afternoon at 2pm, also in the funeral home. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery. Friends are invited to leave online condolences for the family at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
