James E. (Jim) Hine passed away 7/12/2024. He is survived by loving wife Betty, and children Matthew Hine and Megan Smith. His sister, Gerri Alyea, is deceased. He was the son of Dr. Ulis B. Hine and Geraldine Hine Baldwin.
He attended Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.
He was a member of the U. S. Army Reserve for six years, assigned to the 337th General Hospital (as it was known at that time) at Ft. Harrison in Indianapolis. At the conclusion, his rank was Specialist Fifth Class.
In 1972 he was hired by Mallory Timers Company, a manufacturer of electromechanical appliance controls, and became a member of the Sales and Marketing Department. During his career he managed the Internal Sales Department and moving on from sales to marketing he helped create a marketing strategy for the company during its foray into electronic controls. Next he was assigned to business development where his role was to identify sales opportunities outside of the company's mainstream markets. As the company's business migrated more to replacement controls, he called on the major appliance service buyers for Whirlpool, Maytag, Electrolux/Frigidaire, and GE, among others. After 39 years working in these satisfying roles, and under successive changes in corporate ownership he retired in 2011.
On December 21st of 2010 Jim had a lifesaving Heart Transplant. He was eternally grateful to the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff of IU Health Methodist Hospital.
Away from work, Jim, along with his son Matt, were active with the Boy Scouts for over a decade. This involved many campouts, summer camps, and a few high adventure outings.
As a kid he lived near the Pennsylvania railroad tracks as they passed through Irvington on the east side of Indianapolis. This led to a lifelong interest in railroading and trains.
