James Hartsock

James Lewis Hartsock, 89, of Indianapolis, died Saturday, December 27, 2014, after enduring the effects of Parkinson's Disease for 12+ years. He was born May 27, 1925 to Maurice and Elizabeth (Bailey) Hartsock in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Clearfield (Pennsylvania) High School, Jim served his country in the Navy V12 program during World War II. Upon graduation from Penn State University, he was employed by Eli Lilly and Company for 40 and one-half years, retiring in 1990. While there, he volunteered as a Junior Achievement advisor and participated in the Lilly Variety Show. Jim was a long-time member of Broadway United Methodist Church, serving as chairman of several committees, being identified as the Volunteer of the Year, and serving as coordinator of the long running Pancake Breakfast. He had a strong interest in many sports, especially baseball, golf, bowling, and tennis. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Lee, son, Steve (Jane), grandchildren Elizabeth and Nicholas, as well as his brothers, Norman (Joan) and Thomas (Bonnie) Hartsock. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Maurice Hartsock. The family is thankful for the loving care Jim received during his stay in the Hoosier Village Health Center. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Hoosier Village Chapel, 5300 W. 96th Street, Indianapolis, IN. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service.
