James "Jim" E. Halle

James “Jim” Ernest Halle of Carmel, IN, passed away on April 24, 2025, at the age of 67. He was born in Indianapolis, IN, on April 23, 1958, to parents, the late John and Theresa (Gauthier) Halle.

Jim graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1976 and IUPUI, with a degree in marketing. He worked at Lazarus, later becoming Macy’s, from the time he was in college until present-day, nearly 50 years. He opened the Evansville Store in 1982, where he met Karen, a sales associate. There was casual flirting, but when Jim began coaching the girls’ softball team and taught Karen to play 1st base, love began to bloom. They lived in the same home in Newburgh, IN for 32 years, hosting many celebrations with family and friends, especially around the pool. In 2020, amidst the pandemic, they moved to Indianapolis with James to be near Jessie and her family, immersed as Pepere and Kernie in the everyday lives of their beautiful grandchildren.

Jim was beloved by all who met him. His warm heart and outgoing, fun-loving, lightly teasing personality were irresistible. He had a pet name for everyone. He didn’t flaunt his soft side but was full of love and care on the inside, always ready to help a friend in need. Jim’s favorite hobby was golf, with his many Evansville golfing buddies and new golfing buddies in Indy. His heart’s favorites were his grandchildren, who completely adored their Pepere.

Jim married Karen (Gieselman) on April 2, 1988. They spent 37 wonderful years together, she survives. He is also survived by children Jessie (Cameron) Salley, James Halle; grandchildren Korin, Joe, Lilly, and Lauren Salley; sisters, Cynthia (Scott) Rauch, Kathy Priest; aunts and uncles Jackie (Norm) Chaput, Lillian St. Germain, Paul (Mary) Gauthier, Pauline Gauthier, and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10am until 12pm, May 2, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan Oaklawn Memorial Gardens – Conner Suite (9700 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis, IN). A Memorial Service will be held at 12pm, Friday, May 2, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan Oaklawn Memorial Gardens – Conner Suite.
