James Harold "Jim" Wolfgang, 92, lifelong resident of Indianapolis died March 20, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born August 13, 1922 in Indianapolis to the late James Otto and Letha Dean Wolfgang.
After graduating from Arsenal Technical High School, Jim served in the U.S. Army, 1942-45, including service in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Ardennes.
Returning from the war, he married the love of his life, Jean Cowgill, whom he had met while they were students at Tech, and pursued a career as a photo lithographer at the Indianapolis Star and other printing concerns over the years.
Jim and Jean raised three children, James Stephen, John and Janet. Jim served as an elder for more than 40 years at the Emerson Avenue and Eastside Churches of Christ. Attending to church-related functions, particularly directing congregational singing, were areas of service he especially enjoyed. He and Jean also loved to travel, cultivating many happy memories while journeying to visit family and friends, sightseeing coast to coast, and attending air shows across the country. They hosted family holidays and, when not occupied with church activities, could be found nightly playing along with "Jeopardy" on TV.
Jim Wolfgang is survived by his bride of 68 years, Jean; children James Stephen (Bette) Wolfgang of Bolingbrook, IL, John (Wendy) Wolfgang of Gresham, OR, and Janet (Mike) Hardin of Leitchfield, KY; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruthanna Wood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
