James Glen Underwood, 83, of Avon, Indiana passed away on May 1, 2018. He was born February 5, 1935 in Fountain City, Tennessee to Fred and Carrie Underwood; their only son.
James, or Glen as most people knew him, graduated in 1954 from Washington High School. He also met the love of his life, Jacqueline Parker, that year. The two would go on to marry December 1954 and spend 63 beautiful years together. He joined the United States Army February 15, 1954 and served as a Specialist 3 as he earned the National Defense Service Medal. He left the service February 14, 1956, actually hitchhiking his way home, where he turned his focus to family. Glen was a HVAC laborer by trade, working for several companies throughout his career; he retired from Freije in 1994. Jacqueline and Glen also owned Fay Swafford Originals Underwood Distribution Incorporated for 31 years. Family remembers him as a faithful man though stubborn and opinionated. He loved traveling, especially camping with his family. Glen was always on the go and was the kind of man who never met a stranger; he was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a one of a kind husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be sorely missed by all who were blessed enough to meet him.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Carrie; sister, Fay Johnson. Surviving to cherish his memory are wife of 63 years, Jacqueline Underwood; children, Pamela Blakley, Donald Glen (Annmarie) Underwood, and Cyndi (Tony) Davis; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandsons and one more on the way.
