James Eric Schliebner, age 74 of Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded
by his loving family on May 25, 2021 after a long battle of COPD.
James (Jim) was born on March 20th, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio, to Fredric and Peggy
Schliebner.
At the young age of 19, Jim was drafted as a medic in the Vietnam war. Despite the
terrible events that happened, Jim kept a strong and brave attitude. His service and
injury in the war earned him a well-deserved Purple Heart. Apart from his bravery and
honor he demonstrated in Vietnam, Jim was always a high-spirited, funny man, always
wishing to make others around him smile. He enjoyed this so much so that he decided to
open his first comedy club in Indianapolis, known as “Crackers.” With his success in this
first business, he then went on to open two more – “Nicky Blaine’s Martini and Cigar
Bar” and “Jimmy Buff-It’s Auto Detailing.”
On a good day, Jim spent his down time listening to Rush Limbaugh, and watching The
Five, The Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. He also never missed a single Cleveland
Browns game.
In 1989, Jim married his true love, Mary Stieneker, and had a loving marriage for 32
years.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Frederic, mother, Peggy, and brother, Kurt
Schliebner.
Jim was survived by his wife, Mary, siblings, Rick Schliebner, Laura Cochran, and
Barbara McConoughey, as well as his four children, Kimberly House (B.P.), Erin Krall
(Richard), Doug Schliebner (Dana), and Andrea Turner (Lance). He left behind 9
grandchildren, Morgan Lesczynski (Chad), Hanna House, Lily House, Wyatt Turner,
Amelia Turner, Derek Schliebner, Drew Schliebner, Lauren Krall, and Alex Krall. He
also had the fortune of meeting his one great grandchild, Tyler Lesczynski.
