James E. (Jim) Bennett, 72, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022. He was born in 1949 in Indianapolis to the late Richard J. Bennett and Jeanne (Winters) Bennett. He was a 1967 graduate of Broad Ripple High School and then got a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University. He married Libby Burress in 1977 and lived in Lebanon, Indiana, where he was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He also coached his kids’ youth baseball and basketball teams. Jim worked as an IT director for over 20 years at Mayflower and held the same position for 3 years for the City of Lafayette. Jim enjoyed woodworking, being the family handyman, volunteering at the local food pantry, traveling to the Bahamas, and just being funny. If you knew Jim Bennett, then he has made you laugh. He is survived by his son Doug (Lori) Bennett, Beth (Kevin) Bernfield, grandkids Abraham, Wesley, Ruby, and Everly, his sisters Jo Ellen Grimes and Elaine Fontana, nephew Ben (Gina) Grimes and niece Emily (John) Heavrin. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local food pantry. Visitation will be on Monday, August 22, 2022 from noon – 2pm with funeral service immediately following. Burial at Zionsville Cemetery.
