James Edward Winter
Age 68, of Monticello, IN, passed away in New Palestine, IN on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. James was born in Indianapolis, IN on August 3, 1947 to the late, Chester B. and Naomi E. (Mast) Winter. James was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving as an Army Medic. He was deputized by the Sherriff’s Department and worked in security for Community Hospital. He also worked in Sales and Marketing.
James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who enjoyed shooting his guns and collecting Army insignia and memorabilia. He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Sandra L. (Koertge) Winter; children: James E. Winter, Jr. (Rachelle), Daniel P. Winter (Micah Bell), and Rachel L. (Winter) Schneider (James); grandchildren: Morgan Schneider, Makenna Schneider, James Jr. Schneider, Jocelynne Schneider and LaShay Winter; and one sister, Jane E. (Winter) Modesitt.
Friends may call from 4pm until 8pm on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, where funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday, January 4, 2016. Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in James’ memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
