James E. Goebel

On February 15, 2016 (Presidents’ Day), James E. Goebelpassed away. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Beverly(Schnippel) Goebel; children, Anne Goebel, John and Jana (Ralston) Goebel, MaryGoebel, and Sharon (Goebel) and Paul Caroselli; and grandchildren, Hannah (18)and Abby (15) Goebel; Kylie (16), Adelina (5), and Evangeline (4 mo) Caroselli;and Henry Goebel (16 mo). Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky by Adam andMary (Finnegan) Goebel, Jim was the middle of three sons: older brother, A.J.Goebel (d. 1996) and younger brother, Bernie Goebel. He attended St. XavierHigh School, Bellarmine College, and the University of Detroit, where heultimately earned his Master of Arts in English Literature. A lifelong teacher,Jim taught English, the Humanities, and Film at Marian College (now MarianUniversity) for 37 years. A passionately devout Catholic, Jim was a parishionerof St. Michael the Archangel Church. In addition to his deep love anddedication to Jesus, his family, and education, Jim loved to experience life toits fullest, especially through literature, art, music, movies, traveling,politics, and sports (especially the Red Sox, Notre Dame, and the Colts).Memorial gifts may be made to St. Michael.
