James E. Baize, 94 of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022. Jim was born November 18, 1927 in Indianapolis. He was a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and went on to study nuclear engineering at Purdue and Northwestern Universities.
Jim was a WWII vet, serving in the US Navy. He landed on Saipan, Tinian, Guam, and in the landing on Iwo Jima, where his landing craft was destroyed and he spent a week fighting on the island before being wounded. He received two Purple Hearts.
Jim had been a business owner in Indianapolis for decades as well, since the 1950’s and was responsible for many significant engineering projects in and around the state.
Jim was an active member at Meridian Street United Methodist church for decades. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine and the Lions Club. In his later years, was a committed and active participant in the Science and Technology Club as he was always interested in learning and helping forward science and technology solutions.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm Wednesday, September 21 in the parlor at Meridian Street United Methodist Church, where the funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Jim was the widower of Lora “Jo” Baize and was preceded in death by his daughters, Karen B. Baize and Denise D. Baize. He is survived by his stepson, Bradley G, (wife, Catherine) Lymburner; grandchildren, Tony Gates, Kristin Sharif, Nathan Gates, Dennis Oland, Cariann Holt, Lisa James, Brent Oland; step grandchildren, Taylor C. Faith E., and Braden E. Lymburner; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.
