James A. Johnson, 93, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2021.
He was born in the Brightwood neighborhood in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 19th, 1927 to parents Willie and Bertha Johnson, and lived in the Indianapolis area all of his life.
James proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1945 until 1948.
He worked for many years and retired from Richardson Rubber Company.
James was an avid bowler, and traveled the country in bowling tournaments throughout his adult life. He even served as president of the Greater Indianapolis Bowling Association for many years. He was a fan of really most sports, and an always-loyal Colts and Pacers fan. He also loved gardening, and raised beautiful roses.
He was a valued member of Post Road Christian Church for many years. He loved going to church!
James will be missed by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his quick smile, twinkling eye, and the kindness and grace he showed to all. James always believed in redemption and that anyone could turn their life around; was a great prayer warrior.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Louise Rocha; numerous nieces and nephews; his friend Cheryl Dicken and her family, numerous friends and his beloved church family.
Besides his parents, James is preceded in death by his first wife, Martha, and his second wife Ina; his siblings Marie Horn, Grace Johnson (infant), Elsie Norman, Everett Johnson, Jesse Johnson, Della Francis Neeland, Nancy Williams and Carol Johnson (infant).
A memorial service will be held at Post Road Christian Church, 1112 N. Post Road, Indianapolis, Indiana on April 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Post Road Christian Church in James’ name.
