Jack Wesley Smith

Jack W. Smith 83, passed away June 13, 2013 at IU Health Methodist Hospital. He was born June 8, 1930 in Indianapolis the son of Lela (Malicoat) and Avery Smith. Jack was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School where he played football, basketball, and track and attended one year at Butler University on a football scholarship. He had served 20 years as an Indianapolis Firefighter at station 30's Indianapolis. He also was a retired stagehand with International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, past Vice President of Local #30, head carpenter at Indiana, Circle and Murat Theaters, and property master of Starlight Musicals on Butler University campus. He was a member of the American Legion serving in the Navy Reserve and a former member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church and Catholic churches in Arizona and Florida. Jack was an exceptional golfer and recently took up tennis. Jack is survived by his wife of 18 years, Beverly; daughters, Jacqueline Urschel, Jean Winegard, and Angela Smith; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and a sister, Kathleen Campbell. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Kathryn; twin brother, John Wesley Smith and sisters, Lela Maxine Murphy and Phyllis Jean Kelly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 17, 2013 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 6000 W. 34th St. Visitation will be 3:00 until 6:00 P.M. Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Flanner and Buchanan- Speedway, 2950 N. High School Rd.
