Jack Edward Harney was born in Tipton County, Indiana, on May 19, 1942 and grew up in Noblesville, Indiana. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War stationed with the 105th and 264th Transportation Companies out of DaNang 1968-1969 and died Thursday, January 22nd of service connected conditions due to Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam. A memorial brick has been laid in honor of his military service on the Indianapolis Soldier's and Sailor's Monument Circle. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 103 and worked as a heavy equipment operator all his life. Jack also worked at Fishers McDonald's for many years performing maintenance and working the grill. He was Santa's favorite helper at local malls and nursing homes and every year received a special thank you gift from Santa. He was a member of Independent Order of Foresters and was a past member of The Knights of Columbus and was a founding member of St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church in Fishers, Indiana.
Jack leaves behind his wife, Mary Kay (Burger), two children and four grandchildren and one great granddaughter: Steven J. Harney (Barby) and Rebecka; Lisa A. Harney and Bayli,Maggie and Casston Glassman and great granddaughter Kasia Ridley Faye Veirs. He was anticipating the arrival of his second great grandchild this summer.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM, Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel, IN. Visitation 2 hours prior to the service. His cremains will be laid to rest under an oak tree in Washington Park North Cemetery – Kessler Woods.
