Iva Jean Coryell, 90, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2013. She was born on August 30, 1922 in Keensburg, Illinois to the late Inez (Shepherd) and Harry Holloman. She was a graduate of the Marion County School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse before retiring in 1987. Jean also served many years as a volunteer nurse for the American Red Cross.
Jean's love and zest for life was obvious to anyone who met her. She loved to dance and received trophies for ballroom dancing competitions. She learned to belly dance and was known to wear her outfit on Halloween when handing out candy to the neighborhood children. Even her dog, Cheri, had her own belly dance outfit!
Jean also enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She spent alot of time doing crossword puzzles and liked camping on week-ends at Heritage Lake. Many of her adventures were shared with her good friend, Judy Wilson. Judy tells of a time when the two of them took their dance instructor on a picnic and, unbeknownst to the instructor, had packed a cooler full of water balloons.
Jean was also an animal lover. There wasn't a stray cat or dog in her neighborhood that couldn't find a bowl of food and water on her front porch or a warm shelter from a storm. She also kept all the birds, squirrels and even ducks well fed.
Jean also truly loved travelling. She made many trips to various corners of the world.
It is the fond memories we all have that will keep her in our hearts forever.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Inez and Harry Holloman and her sisters Helen Sutton and Mabel Hunt. She is survived by her nieces and nephews Mark, Sue, Michael and David Baker; Maggie Baker; David Frisbee; Matthew Baker; Jeff, Lisa and Zachary Larmer as well as many extended family members and friends.
