Obituary for Iva Joan Austin-Morrow (née Jeffries)
Iva Joan Austin-Morrow (née Lawson - Jeffries), age 84, most recently of Indianapolis, Indiana, was born on November 4, 1941, in South Bend, IN. Joan was the beloved daughter of the late Dale and Esther Elizabeth Jeffries and her previously deceased biological father Gordon Thomas. Her siblings, Carlton Jack Jeffries and Josie Mae Jeffries and former husband James L. Austin preceded her in death. Joan was called home peacefully on May 23, 2026.
Joan’s life was marked by dedication, resilience, and love for her family and community. She received her education at IVY Tech Community College, worked at AM General for many years, left South Bend, IN and moved to Atlanta, Georgia for a few years where she was employed by Price Waterhouse Coopers. She relocated to Indianapolis, IN, continuing to work for Price Waterhouse Coopers for many years, where she was known for her strong work ethic and commitment. Joan retired at age 67 and relaxed, enjoyed her family, did some traveling, loved watching her favorite shows, and reading her magazines, especially People Magazine.
Joan is survived by her loving children: daughters Dawn Smith and Lisa Austin; sons Carl Austin and Michael Curtis (Cassandra), Erica Daniels, Sheena Morrow, and Eboni Morrow. She was a proud grandmother to Duriel Devon Baker, Rachel Nicole Temple, Brandon DeShawn Austin, Jessica Brewington (Brandon), Ashley Davis (Markel), Carlise Austin, and a cherished great-grandmother to Nariah Vaden, Devin Wallace, Titus Temple, Destiney Austin, Journey Austin, Jo-Che Cameron-Austin, Blessyn Austin, Chandler Brewington, Tatum Brewington and Denver Davis, and loving great-great grandmother to Kaison Taylor. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Alicia Austin. She also leaves behind her former longtime partner, Gordon Morrow and her cousin by blood and brother in spirit, LaVerne Weaver, and a host of loving relatives and dear friends.
Joan found joy in music and entertainment and was deeply guided by her faith. She will be remembered for her commitment to family and a reflection of her warm spirit and lasting impact on those who knew her. Her personality could best be described as “genuine and kindhearted” leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.
Joan passed away peacefully in her home with close family.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North Funeral and Cremation: 2706 Kessler Blvd West Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46228.
Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Washington Park North Cemetery located at 2706 Kessler Blvd. West Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46228.
A repast will follow at Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park North Funeral and Cremation at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Family.
The love Joan gave will echo in the hearts of those she touched, leaving behind a lasting legacy and a lifetime of beautiful memories to be treasured.
