Indianapolis

Isaiah Bridgeforth Jr. was affectionately known as Ike to everyone and Bubby to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Born September 27, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana
to Isaiah Bridgforth Sr. and Lizzie Bell (Bledsoe) Bridgeforth, he was the 8th of 12 children. Proceeded in death by both parents, Isaiah and Lizzie (Bledsoe) Bridgeforth, brothers
 Allen Bridgeforth, David Bridgeforth, Craymore Bridgeforth, William Bridgeforth;
 sister Marcella (Bridgeforth) Resnover.

Isaiah graduated from IPS Elementary School #37 (Hazel Heart Hendricks) and Crispus Attucks High School in 1956.  After High School, he enlisted in the US Navy in December 1956 and was honorably discharged in December 1962.

Isaiah was stationed in Key West, Florida where he met and married the love of his life Sheila Vernette Allen on June 5, 1960.  To this union, there were no boys born, but the loves of his life were his daughters Camilla, Debra, and Chevene.

Isaiah worked for 35 years at the U.S. Postal Service as a Postal Operations Manager until he retired in 1992.  After eight years of playing golf almost every day, he went to work for the Washington Township School System. At North Central High School, he became an inspiration to the youth.  The students would take time out of their lunch period to have a conversation or word with “Old School”. After leaving North Central he moved on to Crooked Creek Elementary where he retired after 15 years of work.

Isaiah was a member of the Philanthropic Social Club “Members of The Board” for 45 years.  Until his passing was an active member of the American Legion Post 0168 in Key West Florida. He was also on the Crispus Attucks Class of 1956 Alumni Reunion Committee.  His hobbies included golfing, barbequing, keeping his yard looking sharp, and traveling.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren in his later years.

Isaiah professed his life to Christ at Greater Saint James Missionary Baptist in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Isaiah departed this earth on February 16, 2024, at the age of 86.  Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sheila V. (Allen) Bridgeforth, daughters, Camilla (Doland) Wise, Debra (Lawrence) Hayes, and Chevene (Claude) Richmond, 10 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren, brothers, John (Bettie) Bridgeforth and Hezekiah Bridgeforth, and sisters, Mary Brookins, Anna Jacks, Regenia Davidson, and Joyce (Randall) Glenn.  He also left behind a host of honorary children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, extended family, church family, and friends.
