Irene Jean Songer

Memorial Services for Irene Jean Songer, 86, will be Saturday April 20, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East. Burial will follow the service.

Mrs. Songer passed peacefully on Sunday March 10, 2019 at her home.

Irene is survived by sons, Ken (Lori), and Ron (Bev), daughter Julie (Rob), daughter-in-law Mary, sister Dottie Hagood, brother Norman Arthur, sister-in-law Mary Brown, 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Irene, also known as Jeanie by many; was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence, parents, brothers Charlie, William, Howard, Ed, and Cecil, sisters Frances, Mary, Rosie, Della, and Doris, great Grand-daughter Henley, and great grandson Ace.

Irene was born in Indianapolis, IN, on May 13, 1932 to James and Effie Arthur. She married Lawrence, the love of her life, May 28, 1954. They were married 62 years before his passing. They spent many years in Indianapolis, but also lived in Georgia, California, Arkansas, Florida and retired in Alabama.

She loved to read, and travel, and there were many memorable family vacations. She was known for her special Christmas cookies and candy which she made every year for the family. Even in her later years she made such an effort to do special things for her family and loved ones.
