Irene Hensley Murray

Irene Hensley Murray passed away peacefully at 82 years of age on March 24, 2021.  She was the widow of Stephen F. Murray and celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage before his passing in October of 2016.  Irene was born in Oolitic, IN to Nova Thelmer Hensley and Ruby Hines Hensley where she met Steve, a native of Bedford, IN.  Irene and Steve migrated to Indianapolis at an early age where Irene cultivated her profession as a hairdresser which led to her owning a beauty salon, Creative Styles of Lawrence.  The family moved to Carmel where she raised their four children and supported her husband’s ambition to become a leader in his profession with a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her family and friends.   Irene’s compassion, gentle nature, and heartwarming personality led to innumerable friendships that she cherished for many decades.  Of her many philanthropic endeavors, her passion was through Delta Chi Sigma sorority, where she developed a devotion for working with children with juvenile arthritis.  She carried those same character distinctions in the middle of her life when she and Steve decided to buy a manufacturing business, Mursix Corporation, in Muncie.  There, Irene helped Steve build the business while leaving an everlasting impression of love and respect, without division, with all of the Mursix associates.  She continued that respect and admiration for all those that worked alongside the Murray family up to her death. Irene loved her family, friends, helping others, and anything that involved laughter.  She was an extraordinary individual, wife, mother, and matriarch.

Irene is survived by children Mike (Dara), Susan Carlock, Todd (Jody), and Brad (Jenn).  Her 12 grandchildren, Alec and Sophie; Conner and Braden; Sydney, Spencer, Whitney, Brooke, Brennen, and Cassy; Cache and Cayden.  The family is grateful to the IU North hospital staff and hospice team for their humanity and compassion in allowing Irene to join her beloved Steve peacefully and without pain.  Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Prairie View Golf Club, 7000 Longest Drive, Carmel.
