Huston "Hooty" Lee Stogsdill, 76 of New Albany, Mississippi and Myrtle, Mississippi formerly Indianapolis, Indiana died on February 06, 2014. Hooty was born on February 20, 1937 in Somerset, Kentucky to William "Willie" C and Ruth E. (Raney) Stogsdill of Somerset, Kentucky. Hooty moved to Indianapolis at the age of 16, and he lived there till the past two years where he moved to New Albany, Mississippi with his wife Phyllis Jean (Stephens) Stogsdill. He was the third of nine children. He was preceded in death by his brother Frank L. Stogsdill and his sister Sue and her husband Doss Milligan and his son Keith Stogsdill. Hooty worked as a forklift driver for 46 years and 8 months for Best Foods in Indianapolis before retiring in 1999. Hooty was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in New Albany, Mississippi. He enjoyed fishing with his friends and family as well as being an avid hunter for many years. He also loved roller skating and in his younger day was very good at boxing. Hooty is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Jean (Stephens) Stogsdill of 26 years who he married on October 17, 1987 in Indianapolis, Indiana, his children David Stogsdill of Indianapolis, Indiana and Dorraina (Dale) Thompson of Bargersville, Indiana his step-daughters; Cindy (Jack) Bernethy of Myrtle, Mississippi, Tina (Randy) Baartman of Ashton, Iowa and Phyllis (Wayne) Harmless of Bainbridge, Indiana and his step-son David and (Tammy) Skirvin Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana; fifteen grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren and his siblings Charles (Iva) Stogsdill of Somerset, Kentucky, Louise (Rick) Engleau of Franklin, Indiana, Wilma (James) Surber of Greenfield, Indiana, Richard (girlfriend Pat Wells) Dean Stogsdill of Converse Louisiana, Rose (Greg) Zaic of Ballground, Georgia, and William "Willie" C. (girlfriend Sharon Winkle) Stogsdill Jr. of Zwolle, Louisiana and his sister-in-law Kay Stogsdill and his best friend throughout the years Chris Beagley. Calling will be held on Tuesday February 11, 2014 at Flanner and Buchanan-Speedway 2950 North High School Road Speedway, Indiana 46224 from 10 am to 12 pm followed by the funeral service beginning at Noon. Pastor Dan Bernethy will officiate. Burial will be in West Ridge Park Cemetery 9295 West 21st Street Indianapolis, Indiana 46234. Pall bearers will be his grandsons Jacob Jared, Nathan Jared, Steven Williams, Randy Willoughby, step-son David Skirvin Jr., and his son-in-law Dale Thompson.
