Hubert E. Rethmeier Jr.

Skip was born on December 3, 1947, to Dorothy and Hubert "Hip" Rethmeier. He grew up on the east side of Indianapolis and graduated from Lawrence Central in 1966.

Skip proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserve before beginning his career with the Indianapolis Police Department in 1973. During his time with the IPD, he served as a field training officer, a Patrolman in the Officer Friendly program, an arson detective, and a financial crimes detective. He retired in 2003 after 30 years of dedicated service to his community.

An avid musician, Skip enjoyed playing with several groups, including the Greenwood Community Band, Shrine Band, Sahara Grotto Band and 40/8 band. Music was a lifelong passion that brought him great joy.

He was a proud member of Prospect and Greenwood Masonic Lodges, Scottish Rite, and Murat Shrine.

Skip is survived by his wife of 50 years Beth (Hodges) Rethmeier, son Hubert "Chip," daughter-in-law Storm, two grandsons, Hubert "Kip" and Jonah, and his sister Sharon Pugh.

Above all, Skip loved being a grandfather. He cherished the time he spent with his grandsons and family. He found his greatest happiness in being a part of their lives.

Visitation for Skip is scheduled for Monday, April 27, 2026, from 3:00-6:00pm, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Home, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229. Another short visitation will take place 10:00-11:00am Tuesday April 28, 2026, followed by funeral services at 11:00am. Entombment with military honors will be held directly after the service at Washington Park East Cemetery.
