Howard Earl McKinley, 93, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4. He was born June 7, 1918, the eldest son of Florence (Sites) and Hobart H. McKinley of Muncie.
Howard is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary E. (Richards) McKinley, Indianapolis; children, Dr. Gregory A. (Floreen) McKinley, Washington, and Judith A. (Richard) Nelson, Indianapolis; grandchildren, Brian (Csilla) McKinley, Seymour, Mark McKinley, Terre Haute, Christopher Nelson and Elizabeth Nelson, both of Indianapolis; brother, Gerald "Bud" E. (Martha) McKinley, Muncie; and many nieces and nephews.
Howard was Senior Class Vice President at Muncie Central High School, graduating in 1936. Drafted into the Army Air Forces in 1941 before the United States entered World War II, he married Mary on November 10, 1941 in Omaha, Nebraska, while stationed at Fort Omaha. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Technical Sergeant after serving in the Machine Records Unit in St. Louis, Missouri.
Joining the Trust Department of Merchants National Bank, Indianapolis, he graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking of the American Bankers Association in cooperation with Rutgers, The State University, in 1965, He retired as the Senior Vice President of the Trust Department in 1981.
Howard was active in the Kiwanis Club of North Indianapolis, serving as its president in 1969. He was a 40-year member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis, where he served as an elder. He was a 53-year member 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. After retirement, Howard volunteered at Methodist Hospital and he and Mary delivered Meals on Wheels for more than 25 years. They travelled throughout the United States and to Western Europe. Howard was an avid golfer while a member of Highland Golf and Country Club, Indianapolis.
Howard's warmth and humor will be missed by all.

Services will be on Tuesday, November 8 at 2 PM at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1660 Kessler Boulevard East Drive. Visitation will be on Monday, November 7 from 4-7 PM at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center- Broad Ripple, 1305 E. Broad Ripple Avenue, with a Masonic Service at 7 PM, and visitation will continue on Tuesday from 1 PM until service time at the church. Entombment will be at Washington Park North Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
