Howard L. Dachslager, 90 of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023. Howard was born May 25, 1932 in Baltimore, MD to the late Louis and Francis Dachslager. He was a member of the United States Naval Reserves for 7 years. He received his master’s degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin and his PhD in Mathematics from the University of California-Berkley.
Howard was a professor of Mathematics and Computer Science for 42 years at Irvine Valley College-California, and earlier at the University of California-Berkley. Howard has written several books that were used in his classes in Statistics and Probability Theory as well as books in various Computer languages, the latest one being in Assembly Language which he taught online at IVC as well until retirement in May of 2022.
Howard was very well liked by his students and certainly known for his wealth of knowledge on many subjects. He was known for his big smiles and being happy. He very much believed in the power of positive thinking, and it showed in his sweet personality.
Howard was a gifted pianist who loved and enjoyed playing classical music, especially Chopin. His musical soul always shined through. He was a member of the American Mathematical Society.
Private family services will be held.
Howard is survived by his lifetime soulmate, Frankie Besch and his son, Paul Dachslager, Albert J Murtz his best friend of 50 years, his brother in law Eric Sarti, his sister in law Nanci Sarti and his 3 nieces, April, Brittany and Carina who always talk about how much they love their Uncle Howie Zowie.
