Howard Kahlenbeck, Jr.
88, Indianapolis, passed away December 23, 2017. He was born December 7, 1929, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, the son of the late Howard and Clara E. (Wegman) Kahlenbeck, Sr.
He was an Indiana University School of Business graduate(1951), Delta Upsilon Fraternity international leader, United States Air Force Veteran (1952-1954), University of Michigan School of Law graduate (1957), Indiana Bar member, Sagamore on the Wabash recipient, and worked in Indianapolis law firm of Krieg DeVault Alexander & Capehart (1957-2004), becoming a partner in 1962.
He was a member of Pleasant View Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a 57-year resident of the Brendonwood neighborhood. Howard and Sally enjoyed extensive travels for 40 years with life-long friends Roger and Jane Newcomb. Howard was an avid IU football and basketball fan, attending the 1967 Rose Bowl and most of the Men’s NCAA basketball tournament games.
Preceded in death by wife Sally Kahlenbeck (married 59 years) and brothers William Kahlenbeck and Richard Kahlenbeck, he is survived by his children, Kathy (Dave) Bates and Doug (Debbie) Kahlenbeck; three grandchildren, Chris, Jay, and Alan; and sister, Wanda Bowden.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Pleasant View Evangelical Lutheran Church, 801 West 73rd Street. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Association.
