Howard Jerome Ervin was born August 8th, 1945, to Manese Thomas Ervin (deceased) and Clara Mae Wiseman (deceased) at 1003 W. 25th St. in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He attended Indianapolis Public Schools #26 as a youth and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. At Attucks, Howard played on the football team and also had a passion for photography. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Long Beach during the Vietnam War. While in the Navy, he was blessed to travel the world and brought many of his travels back to the United States. He was honorably discharged from his military service in 1971.
Upon leaving the Navy, he began his career working at RCA. However, he spent the majority of his working career at General Motors Truck and Bus in Indianapolis, Indiana. He retired from General Motors after 31 years of dedicated service on the assembly line. Howard was truly dedicated to his job and providing for his family. He often worked 7 days a week and any overtime he could receive to ensure his family was well provided for. He received several awards for his attendance and dedicated service.
Howard married the love of his life, Christine Ervin on December 6th, 1969, at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church where his uncle Rev. L. E. Ervin (deceased) was pastor and officiated the ceremony. They were married for 51 years and treasured their connection until he passed on from this world into God’s loving arms. He was a lifelong member of Martindale Avenue Church and where he attended faithfully.
Howard had a lifelong love of cars. In his younger years, you could always find him underneath his own cars or helping family and friends with theirs. His beloved 1973 Corvette (“Pretty”) was his prized possession.
Howard departed this life on Thursday, September 9th, 2021, at the age of 76. His brother Charles Ervin preceded him in death. As a family of faith, while he will be missed dearly, we know that our father is now resting in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His salvation was secure, and he is now celebrating in heaven with his mother, brother, family, and friends. His soul is now at peace.
