Howard Eugene Stanton of Indianapolis passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Robin Run Health Facility. Howard was born September 12, 1921, in Union County, Indiana and was educated and grew up there. He is survived by his brother Willard (Donna) and serveral nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Mary Ragan, his second wife of 11 years, Mollie Linda Clark, twin siblings, Joseph and Josephine Stanton, and his parents Willard and Grace Stanton.
Howard was a WWII Veteran having served in the Army Air Corps as a weapons mechanic on P40's, P51's, and P38's. He also was a Truck Driver and served with the "Flying Tigers" in India and Burma. Following the war, he owned his own dump truck and later, his own semi-trailer, driving as a vocation for over 40 years.
As a Shriner, he served many years providing transportation for children to Shrine hospitals in Chicago and Cincinnati.
During his life, Howard enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. He belonged to the Hoosier Heartlanders Camping Club and became a Kentucky Colonel during one of his camping trips in Kentucky.
Family ad friends may gather on Monday, July 2, at 9:00 AM at Flanner and Buchanan Speedway, 2950 North High School Road, for a Masonic Service, to be followed by visitation until time of the memorial service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Lincoln Memory Gardens, Lebanon, Indiana.
