Homer A. Doriot, 94, of West Lafayette, IN, passed away September 28, 2010 in West Lafayette. Homer was born on January 11, 1916 in Michigan City, IN to Elmer and Emma Doriot. He lived in Michigan City for a while before moving to Indianapolis. Homer graduated from Shortridge High School and attended Butler University. He married Dorcas Porter on July 18, 1942.
Homer was an accountant and worked for Best Foods, Indiana Gear Works, Chrysler Airtemp, and he worked for and was a member of the Indiana State Board of Accountants. Homer and his family lived in Indianapolis until 2006. At that time, he moved to West Lafayette where he resided at University Place.
Among his hobbies, Homer loved to travel and play tennis, was an avid reader, an excellent bridge player, and an accomplished musician. At one time, he played piano on the radio for 30 minutes to listeners. Homer was also a member of the Scottish Rite, The Mystic Tie, and, along, with his beloved wife Dorcas, were members of Northminster Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where they were very active and faithful members.
Homer was preceded in death by his wife, Dorcas, on August 19, 2004, his brother Elmer Doriot, and by son-in-law Robert McElyea. He leaves behind to cherish his memories 2 daughters Janice (Michael) Spitalniak of Lafayette, IN and Suzanne McElyea of Jacksonville, FL.
Services will be held Saturday October 2, 2010 at 2pm at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Washington Park North 2706 Kessler Blvd W. Drive Indianapolis, IN with calling two hours prior beginning at 12 noon. Entombment will take place in Washington Park North Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Indiana 115 West Washington Street Suite 1180-South, Indianapolis, IN, 46204 in Homer’s memory.
