Holly Outland

December 3, 1970 – May 31, 2016

Holly Mae Outland was born in Auburn, Indiana, as the youngest of seven children in a big, loving family. In a word, she was funny. Really funny — with a raucous, easy laugh and a perfect sense of comic timing that made wherever she was a joyful place, filled with humor and light.

As one of only two girls in a house with boys, she learned early to assert herself and make her needs known. It was not uncommon to hear an indignant, “I just want you guys to know there is a girl in this house, so put the seat down. I almost fell in!” declared with fury. To this day, her brother Jason says he can’t leave a toilet seat up without fear of retribution. Holly’s early aspirations where apparent when — at the age of 4 — she declared herself to be Steve Austin, the Bionic Man. She then spent a good deal of her youth solving household crimes – mostly of her own making.

Holly made friends for life – including her BFF of 32 years, Candy Kaiser. In another word, Holly was loyal. Really loyal. She attended DeKalb High School and spent spare hours with ACT I, the community theatre her family founded in Auburn. She held many roles with that theater group, ranging from backstage technician to “snack monitor” with an occasional onstage appearance.

While living in St. Louis, Holly met the love of her life, Samantha Wootten, who became her wife on August 10, 2005, in San Francisco. Together, they were blessed with two smart, beautiful and energetic daughters – Genevieve Louise (Genna), born in 2006, and Catherine Margaret (Cate), born in 2010. Their family lived in Los Angeles from 2007-2015, during which Holly earned her bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management and secured a job as Supply Chain Manager for Farwest Corrosion Control.

In July, 2015, Holly and Sam moved to Indiana so they, and their girls, would be closer to family. Little did they know how important that family support system would become when Holly was diagnosed with cancer in September, 2015. She fought it like a champ and kept her sense of humor through it all — until May 31, 2016, when heaven added the coolest angel ever.

In addition to Samantha, Genna and Cate, Holly had a huge family that loved her. It includes her parents Jason (deceased) and Mary Outland. Her siblings: brother Eric (deceased); brother Brad and his wife Diane (Yost); brother Craig and his wife Betsy (Blake); sister Angie and her husband Mark Dollins; brother Noel and his wife Beth (Perdue); brother Jason and his wife Carol (Hoyt); and nieces and nephews Rachel (deceased) and Curtis Outland, Eric and Claire Dollins, Emma and Ben Outland and Isaac Outland.

Holly Outland was deeply loved and will be missed. Really missed.
