Herbert G. Rode
89, passed peacefully on March 30, 2013. He grew up working on the family farm in Scottsburg, Indiana. He served in the United States Army, during World War II and was proudly a member of the Greatest Generation. He worked at Morgan Packing Company and Davis Homes before starting Rode Excavating and retiring at the age of 77. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. Herb enjoyed visiting his family in southern Indiana, seeing his friends, attending his annual Army reunions and fishing.
His parents, Henry and Clara Rode, brother, Melvin Rode, sister, Thelma Hashman and daughter, Joyce Rode preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Tim) Collins and Kathy Rode, grandsons, Harry (Lori) Jackson, Matthew (Marcy) Collins, great-grandson, Morgan Jackson, brother, Lee (Peggy) Rode and sisters, Doris Heath and Ellogene Everage and many nieces and nephews. Herb's family wishes to thank his health care team, Kim Pappas, Sarah Fouts and Kathy McKay.
The family will have a private service at a later date. Donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or charity of your choice in his memory. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North
