Henry V. "Hank" Oakwood, Jr., 93 of Carmel, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015. Hank was born in Watseka, IL to the late Henry Sr., and Blanche Oakwood. He was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University and served in the US Navy during WWII.
Hank was the sales manager for Graybar Electric Co., Inc. for 29 years. He then served 9 years as the executive director of the Electric League of Indiana.
Hank was a member and elder at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, member of the Rotary Club of Carmel, Past President of the International League of Electrical Associations, and received the Distinguished Service award from the Electric League of Indiana. Hank was also a volunteer for St. Vincent Carmel, the Eiteljorg Museum and several other organizations.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 28 at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 29 at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church.
Hank was the widower of Rosemary C. Oakwood and Marian J. Oakwood. He is survived by his children, Carol O. Solis, Robert A. (wife, Dianne) Oakwood and Laurel J. (husband, James) VanTassel; grandchildren, Scott and John Solis, Ashley Gibas, Whitney Seay and Lisa VanTassel; stepsons, Don and Bob Erath and their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, David VanTassel.
