HENRY LOUIS SWANIGAN was born on July 11, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana to William
Swanigan and Sarabell Cissel Swanigan. He attended Indianapolis Public Schools.
At a young age, Henry accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was active in church
events.
Henry worked many years at Richardson Rubber Company, retiring in the early 1980s. He
loved all things basketball, playing cards, family reunions, Cadillac, and Lincoln cars. His
favorite pastime, however, was pitching horseshoes at Indianapolis’s Riverside Park where he
participated in “lively and spirited” conversation with a crew of long-time friends.
Henry Louis Swanigan departed this life on March 14, 2024, at the age of eighty-six years. He
was preceded in death by his parents, wife Annetta Rebecca Swanigan, children Tracey
Swanigan Johnson and Rita Swanigan Williams, brothers Robert, Carl, Edward, Eugene and
Joseph “Butch” Swanigan, and sisters Catherine Swanigan, Grace Swanigan Sellers, Delores
Swanigan, and Mildred Swanigan Clark.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son Quinton Swanigan (Lisa), daughters Donna Swanigan
and Sherrie Swanigan Hamilton, stepdaughters Deborah Reed, Patricia Baker, Rita Walton and
Charlene Walton, stepsons Brian “Tony” Bingham (Rochelle), Alex “Jerry” Bingham (Lisa), Keith
Torrence, Sr. (Debbie) and Kim Leon Torrence, and nephew Michael Ford, to whom he also was
a father figure. Henry’s legacy continues through a host of grand and great-grandchildren,
nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as many cherished friends.
God saw the road was getting weary
The hill was hard to climb;
He gently closed your loving eyes
And whispered “Peace Be Thine.”
