Henry Albert "Al" Jone
86, passed away in his home in Indianapolis on March 7. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Jones was a staff sergeant in the Unites States Air Force. He was a graduate of Butler University School of Pharmacy. A registered pharmacist, Mr. Jones was with Haag Drug Co., in Indianapolis, for 32 years, where he held the position of assistant vice president, director of professional relations. He later joined Bindley-Western Drug Co. as director of sales. Mr. Jones was a long-standing member of the United Methodist Church. He was a member of Bellaire Methodist Church and later of Union Chapel UMC. It was while stationed at Chanute Air Force Base, in Illinois, that Al met and fell in love with Mildred Gilkeson, who was a registered nurse at the base. They married in 1948 and shortly thereafter made their home in Indianapolis. Sixty-seven years later, they were as devoted to each other as they were on the day they married. Mrs. Jones survives her husband and is joined in sorrow by their four children and spouses, three grandchildren and spouses, and five great-grandchildren. Also saying goodbye to Al are his sisters and brothers and their families and too many friends to count. He was a wonderful man who touched many lives. He will be profoundly missed. Visitation will be held at Flanner and Buchanan – Broad Ripple on Wednesday, March 11 from 5-8 p.m. Services will follow on Thursday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the same location.
