Henry 'Hank:' U. Bryant

Henry "Hank" Uhlman Bryant, Sr. 80 years old and born in Indianapolis, died on Thursday evening quietly in the presence of family. He was married to Dolores A. Weimer for over 55 years, following their wedding at St. James Catholic Church in Indianapolis on June 8, 1957. Hank and his wife made their home and raised their family on the west side of Indianapolis and were members of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church. Mr. Bryant spent four years in the United States Marine Corp, receiving an honorable discharge as a corporal. While a Marine, he served in the Pacific Theatre during the Korean War with tours of duty in Korea, the Philippines and Japan as well as a brief European engagement in Italy. He then returned to employment as a machinist and production control specialist at Detroit Diesel Allison a Division of General Motors in Speedway Indiana where worked for 39 years. He went on to enjoy a lengthy retirement. In addition to being a loving husband and father, Hank had a passion for the game of golf which started with his being a caddy at the age of 8 years old at Highland Country Club, Coffin Golf Course and Riverside Golf Course and then continued through his entire life, playing often with friends, family members and his grandchildren. He was an avid firearms enthusiast and member of the National Rifle Association. He also volunteered for a number of years at St. Gabriel's helping with landscaping and outdoor maintenance. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; his children: Henry U. Bryant Jr. and his wife Sherri, Diane Weston and Linda Ervin and her husband Edward; his grandchildren: Jennifer (Bryant) Lis and her husband Eric, Laura Bryant, John Bryant, Matt Ervin and Paul Ervin; and by his brother, Bill V. Bryant. Hank was preceded in death by his mother, Irene, his father James Sr. and by his half-brothers James Jr., Guy and Freeman Bryant. Visitation will be Monday, May 20 at Flanner and Buchanan-Speedway 2950 North High School Road in Speedway from 4 to 8 pm with a Wake Service at 7 pm. The funeral will be Tuesday, May 21 at St Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church 6000 West 34th Street in Indianapolis at 10 am. Mr. Bryant will be entombed at Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
