Henrietta Poindexter

Henrietta Rockingham Poindexter was born on April 25, 1950, to the union of Herman & Maggie L Wesley Rockingham

 Henrietta departed this life on April 12, 2024. She was preceded by her parents Herman & Maggie Rockingham. She believed in Christ at an early age. She was a member of Galilee AME in Caseyville, MS. She moved to Indianapolis in 1959 and joined Providence AME in 1959.

 Henrietta served as a Steward, Class Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Y.P.D., President of the Missionary Society, Treasurer of the Indiana Missionary Society (1995-2001) and choir member.

 Henrietta attended IPS #42, Crispus Attucks High School, then attended the University of Louisville and later transferred to IUPUI in Indianapolis where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree.

 Henrietta was employed by the Marion County Welfare Department's Crippled Children's Services where she worked as a caseworker from March 1977 until becoming employed at the State Civil Rights Commission 1979. There she worked and later became a supervisor and served in that position until she retired in 2014 after 35 years of service.

 Henrietta was preceded by parents, sister Maggie Mathis, brothers James, Robert and Roger Rockingham.

 She leaves to cherish her Memory, Reginald her loving husband of 47 years, children Tarryl (Alexandra), Kendra Lester (Ron) Reginald J (Dendra), Sherhonda. Siblings John (Juanita) of Beltsville, MD, Herman Jr. (Ellie), Juanita Graham of Clinton MD and Almeda Lester of Indianapolis, IN. She had 15 grandchildren,17 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

 Henrietta was a natural leader, quick to advise and to express her opinion. One of her favorite sayings was a call to her husband "Reginald!" and son Tarryl Poindexter said she would "pinch" you if she thought you deserved it. She loved her family.

 Henrietta will be greatly missed.
