Helen Marie (Eaglesfield) Englehart

April 21, 1926 — December 19, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

Helen Marie Eaglesfield Englehart, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed peacefully at her home on December 19, 2021. Helen was 95.

At the age of 13, Helen met the love of her life, David Blair Englehart, and spent her early years on the family farm on Shady Lane in Brazil, Indiana. It was during this time that Helen attended Van Buren High School, where she was active in various academic clubs. Every Saturday, rain or shine, David would ride his bicycle eight miles out to the Eaglesfield Farm on Shady Lane to spend time with Helen. The many stories of David’s bicycle travels to foster his love will never be forgotten. If you ever met Helen, you likely heard that story countless times. It was unquestionably her favorite. Words simply cannot fully explain the unconditional love Helen and David shared together over their 71-year journey.

Helen was a graduate of the Indiana State University School of Education and became a music teacher. In 1951, Helen and David married while he was home on a three-day leave from the Korean War. Over the years, Helen was involved with her church and various other civic organizations. Helen loved her dogs; there were many over the years and she spoiled each and every one of them. Helen would hold court at the kitchen table and there was always a dog under the table waiting for a treat. Helen was an avid golfer and was never shy about telling everyone about her hole-in-one on the Brendonwood Golf Course. Helen and David also loved to travel. They spent time in Europe and the Caribbean. For years, they maintained a home on Siesta Key in Sarasota, Florida.

Surviving her are her two children, Blair Rawley Englehart and Sally Englehart Standley (“Gil”). She is also survived by her five grandsons: David James Englehart, Peter McNutt Standley, Thomas Walter Standley, Daniel Blair Englehart, and John Gilbert Standley. She is also survived by her great-grandson Walter David Standley. Visitation will take place on January 6th at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church at 34th and Central. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M.  followed by the service at 12:00 noon.
