Helen L. Chastain

Helen Louise (Allison) Chastain 92 of Indianapolis died May 29, 2018.  Helen was born on March 24, 1926 in Indianapolis to Alvin Anthony and Wynona Mae (Kincaid) Allison.  Helen was a graduate of Arsenal Tech High School where she was one of the first ever cheerleaders at Arsenal Tech.  Helen was very athletic and loved to roller skate and dance along with her sister Doris Cherry.  As a young adult, Helen and her sister Doris were dancers with the USO shows, performing with Andy Devine, Dick and Jerry Van Dyke and Harry Blackstone.  She also loved sewing and crafts and any type and was a huge Betty Boop fan. Helen became a manager for Sears and Roebuck in the catalog department at the Lafayette Square Mall location and then the Castleton Square Mall location before retirement.  She was affectionately known to her family as “Grandma Kissie”. Helen was preceded in death by her husband; Earl Walter Prifogle and siblings; Bub, Ralph and Jim Allison and Doris Cherry and her aunt Yulonda E. Thomas.  Calling will be held on Monday June 04, 2018 at Flanner Buchanan-Zionsville from 4 to 8 pm followed by funeral services on Tuesday June 05, 2018 at 1pm.  Helen is survived by her husband; C. Eugene “Gene” Chastain, children; Jacquelyn “Jackie” (Mike) Shaw, Don (Donna) Prifogle, Robert (SueAnn) Chastain and Marcia (Ron Adams) Chastain, her brother; Mike (Barbara) Allison, 5 grandsons; Chad (Kim) Prifogle, Joe (LiChun) Gerbofsky, Kyle Shaw, Roy Prifogle and Rob Chastain and 4 granddaughters; Cori (Glen) Misner, Beth (Adam) Kain, Nicki (Beth) Prifogle and Audi (Aaron) Chastain-Morre and 4 great grandchildren; Zabrina Prifogle, Haley Prifogle, Lilly Gerbofsky and Theo Kain 5 nieces and 4 nephew.  Memorial contributions may be given to either the Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Society.  Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.  Online condolences and a video tribute may be shared at www.flannerbuchanan.com
