Josephine Helen Lee
86, of Indianapolis, peacefully passed away July 5, 2013. She was born January 21, 1927 in Sprigg, WV, the eighth child of John E. and Maggie (Scott) Hatfield.
Josephine retired from RCA after working 30 years. She was among the first women hired to work at the Chrysler Plant on Shadeland Avenue. She only worked there for a short time due to pressure from men who thought women should not be on the assembly line. A few years later the social climate changed and Chrysler began hiring women again.
Josephine joined Grace Assembly of God, which became Calvary Temple and now The Caring Place, in 1956. In recent years she attended Calvary Temple, Old Bethel United Methodist Church and MTC.
She is survived by her son, Amos, Lee Jr., Indianapolis; daughter, Sandra Lee Flaherty (Bob) Newberg, OR; sister, Wanetta Perrine, Anderson, IN; five grandchildren, Amy Lee Wagoner (Mike) New Palestine, IN, Bob Flaherty (Elizabeth) Loves Park, IL, Amanda Lee McDorman (Paul) Galveston, IN, Charisa Flaherty (Josh Edmonson) Winchester, VA, and Jason Lee (Carey) Brownsburg, IN; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Lee, daughter, Tammy Jo Lee, daughter-in-law, Pam Snodgrass, brothers, Scott Hatfield, Alvin Hatfield, Philip Hatfield, Ray Hatfield, Wayne Hatfield, and sister, Magadalene Hatfield.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 18 at 11 AM at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, with her son-in-law, the Reverend Dr. Robert Flaherty officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 17 from 5-8 PM at the funeral center. Entombment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery. Immediately following the funeral services on Thursday, family and friends are invited to a meal and reception at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East.
