Helen Elizabeth Voelkel 88 of Camby, Indiana passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2023. She was born on August 15, 1934, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Raymond and Myrle (Cooper) Archer. Helen was a woman of great faith, and the church was an important part of her life for many years. In her younger years she attended Fleming Gardens Church and was a long-time member of West Newton United Methodist Church where she taught Bible School, sang in the choir, and participated in the Women’s Bible Group. She most recently had been attending the Lifeline Baptist Church in Camby, Indiana. Helen was an Enterostomal Therapist, volunteered in several hospitals, served as a volunteer EMT for the Decatur Township Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed working in the school cafeteria for many years. Helen had numerous interests which included, needlepoint, scrapbooking, all kinds of handicrafts, gardening, the family vacation trips to the Smoky Mountains, camping at Glendale/ Dogwood, trips to Florida to visit family, and she especially enjoyed visiting her son when he was in the service stationed in Hawaii. She was loved by so many and will be greatly missed. Helen is survived by her loving children, Charles Voelkel, Sherry (Steve) Queen, Jerry Voelkel, Scott Voelkel, her grandchildren, Ryan Queen, Emily (Brandon) Kress, Allison (Cory) Wilkerson, Danille (Corban) Hartley, Elizabeth Voelkel, her great grandchildren, Jagger, Finnley, Brooks, Tanner, and Ohana who is due to arrive this summer. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles J. Voelkel whom she married December 14, 1956. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, 4:00pm-8:00pm and Saturday, April 29, 2023, 11:00am-1:00pm at Flanner Buchanan Decatur Township. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, 1:00pm at the funeral home. Helen will be laid to rest at West Newton Cemetery in West Newton, Indiana. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial gift be directed to the American Cancer Society or the United Ostomy Association.
