Helen Elizabeth Mcdonnell

Helen Elizabeth Allen McDonnell received her heavenly Angel wings on August 8, 2018. She was born October 16, 1929 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia to Arch and Mollie (Collier) Allen. Helen moved to Indianapolis in 1948 where she soon met and married William McDonnell. They were married for 65 years until his passing in 2014. Helen was employed by the Fletcher Trust Co., IPS #68, and after 25 years of service, she retired from JC Penny’s. She was an active member of Old Bethel UMC and their UMW. Helen volunteered at Community Hospital East with the Love & Sharing Sewing Club, making ‘Puppy Pillows’ that provide comfort to countless children. Helen was a 50 year member of The Heart of Gold Club of Crossroads of America Council, Boy Scouts of America as a spouse of a devoted Scouting volunteer.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband William J. and their loving son, John Stephen McDonnell, her sister Betty Buck and brother Glen Allen. She is survived by her sister Cecile Taylor, Kingsport TN, brothers Archie Allen, Bangor Maine, and James Allen (Lucy), Speedwell TN,. Helen is also survived by her ‘sister’ in law Janet Sterrett, many nieces and nephews, her card playing partners, and her many endearing friends. A visitation period will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, on Mon., Aug. 13, 2018 from 4-8pm. Services will be held at the same location on Tues., Aug. 14, 2018 at 12pm. Burial: Washington Park East Cemetery.
