Helen Elizabeth "Betty" Collins Atkins 94, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away June 30, 2013, surrounded by family and friends. Betty was born April 16, 1919, the daughter of Randall and Irene (Kinder) Collins in New Castle, Indiana. She graduated from Shortridge High School, Indiana Business College and Butler University. Betty taught home economics, English and music appreciation at Roberts School for disabled children and organized their first junior-senior prom. She also taught at Arsenal Technical High School. Betty served as organist for over forty years at North Tacoma Christian Church and was most recently a member at Chapel Rock Christian Church. She was a member of P.E.O. and loved spending time with family and playing bridge. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 70 years, Shirley D. Atkins; two brothers, Alan Collins, Robert Collins; one grandson, one granddaughter and one great-grandson. She is survived by daughters, Nancy Dunn (Nichola Varvel), Carol (Mac) Moore, and Janet Delong (Donetta Cothran); son, David (Jan) Atkins; grandchildren, Randy Dunn, Bill, John and Michael Daniels, Sally Miller, Nick, Nate and Julia Delong; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Resener, Marian Marlowe and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2013 in Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple . Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 5, calling one hour prior at the funeral home .
