71 of Indianapolis, passed away on April 9, 2016, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis & Breast Cancer. Hazel was born in Indianapolis, the only child of James White & Hazel (Merritt) White. After the early deaths of both parents, Hazel was raised to adulthood by her aunt, Maxine Merritt Pierson. Graduating from George Washington High School, she also attended Ball State University and IUPUI. After meeting her husband, Stephen on a blind date, she accepted a proposal of marriage only two weeks later and discontinued her education to become a full time homemaker. Hazel and Stephen were married for 52 years making their home in Indianapolis. They also lived in Lima, Ohio; South Bend, Indiana; and part time in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hazel is survived by her husband Stephen, four children, Michele (Kenneth) Berryhill, Darcy Rene’ (Michael) Ashley, Nicole (Corey) Cook and Andrew Heritier. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Kristina (Scott) Taft, Jessica (Alex) Goodman, Cassandra Ashley, Jacob (Lydia) Berryhill, Corey Cook, Andrew James Heritier and Aaron Heritier. Hazel’s husband, children and grandchildren will miss her very loving presence and always admire her heroic struggle. Arrangements are entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan- Floral Park.
