Harry Sharlow, 107, died peacefully on Sept.16, 2014. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 74 years, Margaret (nee Hodge) in 2009. His memory will be cherished by five generations of descendants, including his sons Terrell (Clara) of Noblesville, IN, Don (Julia) of Brock, TX, now dec'd Roger (Julia Ann) of Plano, TX and daughter Harriet (Ralph) Benavidez of Haddonfield, NJ. Mr. Sharlow lived a remarkable life. He was born in Woonsocket, RI on Sept. 11, 1907 and spent his early adulthood traveling in the paint and wallpaper business. It was only Margaret who was able to capture the heart of the self-professed confirmed bachelor. They married and settled in Indianapolis in 1934 where he became a lifelong active community member. He was a dedicated member of numerous organizations including Northwood Christian Church, the Scottish Rite Cathedral, Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge #398, and served for 20 years with Meals on Wheels. Mr. Sharlow was privileged to witness great change in the world over his long life. He was a supporter of youth and a strong believer in education, and the role model of a gentleman. His loyalty, integrity, and sharp wit sparked admiration in all whom he met. His legacy will continue to inspire those blessed by his impact. While Mr. Sharlow will be sorely missed, Margaret's blue eyes are surely dancing with joy at being reunited with her beloved in heaven.
Please join his family in honoring and celebrating Mr. Sharlow's life. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple, 1305 East Broad Ripple Ave. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at Northwood Christian Church, 4550 Central Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46205. Burial will follow at Scotland Cemetery, Kirklin.
