Harry James McKay, 87, of Zionsville, passed away November 9, 2011. He was born in Detroit, MI to the late Harry and Bertha (Hellers) McKay on June 29, 1924. Harry served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He married his wife of 62 years, Geraldine Fioretti, on June 25, 1949. After attending the University of Detroit and the University of Michigan, Harry was employed by the U. S. Treasury Department and as Port Director for U. S. Customs in Indianapolis, IN.
After retiring in 1986, Harry became the driver of Zionsville Schools' Bus 6, a job he enjoyed for 19 years. He was an active member of St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church in Zionsville, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Harry liked to read, sail, and walk, and loved the dogs he and his family had through the years.
Harry is survived by his wife, Geraldine McKay; sons Kenneth J. (Karen) and Christopher M. (Nancy) McKay; daughters Kathleen S. (Gary) Myers, Carol A. (Mark) Sands, and Mary G. Louthan; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 2 to 6 pm at Flanner and Buchanan Zionsville Funeral Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 14 at 11 am at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church, 1870 W. Oak, with calling from 10 am until time of service. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Augustine's Home for the Aged, 2346 W. 86th, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
