Harry Hontos, born on May 15, 1943, in Psili Vrisi, Greece, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, surrounded by his children, daughter-in-law, and youngest grandson. He was a cherished figure in his community, known for his charismatic personality, witty humor, and willingness to lend a hand to others in need.
Harry served in the Greek military before immigrating to London, Ontario, as a skilled worker. He then worked his way up in the restaurant industry and eventually, with the help of good friends, opened his first of many restaurants in Canada. In 1983, he married Eugenia (née Angelos) and moved to Westfield, Indiana. Harry became a proud part-owner of Papa’s Pancake House, where he lovingly served the Lawrence community until his retirement in 2019.
Memorable moments that brought joy to those around him include large family breakfasts at Papa's, wrestling in the living room with his children and grandchildren, hosting legendary Easter lamb roasts where all were welcome to join, and trips to Greece to visit his brothers and their families. His hobbies included thoroughbred horse racing and playing cards with friends, which added another layer of enjoyment to his life.
Harry is survived by his children, Fani (Peter) Zorbas, Maria Hontos, and Kosta (Brittney) Hontos; his grandsons, Gianni Zorbas, George Zorbas, Perry Zorbas, Leo Hontos, and Hari Hontos; his sister-in-law, Vasiliki Hontos; three nieces and their children; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Konstantinos and Maria; his beloved wife, Eugenia; his brothers, Kyriakos Hontos and Dimitri Hontos; Dimitri’s wife, Fani; and brother-in-law, Tom Angelos.
