Harry W. Evard passed away on June 11, 2011. Born in Indianapolis to Harry W. and Mary Elizabeth Evard on January 31, 1922, he attended Cathedral Grade School and Cathedral High School. A Butler University junior in 1942, he enlisted in Naval Aviation and was called to active service in July of 1943. He was later transferred to the Anti-Submarine Development Division of the Atlantic Fleet from which he was separated in September of 1946.
Harry was married to Janet Mitchell on August 20, 1945 in Miami, Florida and they were blessed with five children: Timothy Wright (Vicki), Linda Lee Smith (Chris), Dr. Robert Edward (Judi), Daniel Mitchell (Julie) and Marcie Ann Warden (Jim), 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Following WWII, Harry worked for Standard Oil of Indiana, National Advertising Co., and for 35 years as a salesman for WISH TV, having started with them in 1954, the year they went on the air. Harry was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi, The Service Club of Indianapolis, and St. Pius X Catholic Church.
In addition to his children, he is survived by his grandchildren Stacy (Joe) Benz, David (Christina), Devon (Missy), Emme, Max (Angela) Smith, Bill (Cassie), Sam, Matthew and Kirstin Warden, Scott and Lizzie. Great grandchildren are Victoria and Abigail Benz, Ashley, Sabrina, Madison, Maya, Reed, Zoe, Jude, Alec and Elle. He was preceded in death by his wife, his brother, John Edward Evard, and his sister, Elizabeth Anne Patterson.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Saturday, June 18, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at the church from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
