Harry Dainty, 87 of Carmel, IN, formerly of Victor, NY, passed away Monday, June 21, 2021. Harry was born May 25, 1934, in Rochester, NY to the late Harry T. and Helen M. Dainty. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Harry served on the USS Columbus CA-74 Heavy Cruiser, translating coded communications during the Korean War. After retiring from the Navy, he drove an ambulance for Henrietta, NY and became a Master Electrician and member of the IBEW Local 86 in Rochester, NY. He also served as Fire Chief of the Genesee Valley Fire Department in Henrietta, NY and was integral in acquiring the first Snorkel Fire Truck for the Firehouse. He was an active member of the Monroe County and Western New York Volunteer Fire Chiefs Association, as well as the NY State Fire Chiefs Association, Eastern Association of Fire Chiefs and International Association of Fire Chiefs. He also served as Fire Marshall for Monroe County and South Bristol, NY. A 32° Mason, he was active in the Eagle Masonic Lodge in Honeoye, NY; was active in Shrine and served as Potentate of the Damascus Shrine Temple in Rochester, NY; and was recognized for special service on behalf of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Freemasons. He served as Worthy Patron in the Order of the Eastern Star and was an honorary lifetime member of the American Legion and DeMolay in NY State,
Harry devoted his life to helping others, whether it be sharing the wonderful bounty from his yearly vegetable garden, implementing the tools of his trade, or simply giving of himself in all areas of charity and service to his community. He was always on the lookout for opportunities to provide for others, by cooking each week for his church soup kitchen, collecting food for donation, volunteering whenever he saw a need, and contributing to the many causes he believed in. He loved to play golf, was an avid fan of baseball, football and soccer, he loved wine making and won several awards, he loved to cook, and enjoyed every day to its fullest.
Harry is survived by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Nancy; daughter Karen (Robert) Stransky; grandchildren Ryan Deal; Meredith Harrison; Nicholas Reed; Zachary Dainty; Jennifer Chapman; Allyson Brower; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters Ann and Sheila, his brother Stanley, his daughter Cynthia and son, Kevin.
