Harris Miller Thorpe, 94, loving husband, father and Paw-Paw went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Harris was born on November 3, 1931, to John and Lucille (Boggs) Thorpe. He married Judith C. Soladine on September 25, 1954, and had three children, H. Allen (Denyse) Thorpe, Jill (Marc) Kirchoff and Mark (Peyton) Thorpe.
He was a lifelong resident of Decatur Township and graduated from Decatur Central in 1949, where he held the senior class office of business manager. He served in the Korean War in 1952 & 53. Harris worked for Indianapolis Power and Light 44 years in the underground and system operations departments retiring in 1994, also having served as president in the Young Men’s Forum and Conservation Clubs. He was an avid fisherman looking for any opportunity to “wet a worm”. He loved spending time with his extended family in Kentucky and California. He enjoyed his Model A and was a member and officer of the Mid-Hoosier Model A Ford Club. He was a member of Camby Community Church and former member at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Valley Mills Christian Church, and Third Christian Church serving in many capacities.
He is survived by his 3 children, 3 grandchildren (Jonathan Kirchoff, Julia Thorpe and Jessie Money), and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 65 years, and brother (Louis M. Thorpe).
Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 2 – 7 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan– Decatur Township. The funeral service will be following the visitation at 7 p.m. Harris will be laid to rest at Washington Park North Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Camby Community Church or the Indy Honor Flight.
