Harold J. "Sonny" Bennett, Jr., 74, of Zionsville died October 20, 2011. He was born in Indianapolis on April 1, 1937. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School, Noble School, and Noble Industries Workshop.
Sonny was a participant in the first Indiana Special Olympics in 1969. "Uncle Sonny" was the much-loved custodian at Colonial Village Nursery and Daycare Center. He enjoyed spending time with his family, including his nieces and nephews and their children. Sonny loved driving his all-terrain vehicle everywhere on his family's property. He also loved rooting for the Colts and Notre Dame football teams and IU basketball.
Sonny is survived by his mother, Ruthmae King Bennett; siblings Donald V. and Sherry R. Bennett; nieces Patty (Jim) Kent , Terry (Dan) Bayt , Cathy (John) Ruchaj, Diane(Matt) Bradford ; nephew Andy Bennett (Kim); great nieces and nephews Paul, Demetria, Heather, Whitney, Tim, Chelsea, Shannon, and A.J. He was preceded in death by his father Harold J. Bennett, Sr., his sister-in-law Roberta Bennett, and Howard B. "Mac" McClain.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Monday, October 24, 2011 at noon at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church, 1870 W. Oak, Zionsville. Visitation will be from 10 am until time of service. Contributions in memory of Sonny may be made to Special Olympics.
