Harmon Hammond
Harmon entered into the arms of his Savior on Friday, April 25, 2014. He was born September 24, 1923 to the late Mort Hammond and Martha Snodgrass Hammond in Clinton, IN. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Harmon (Pete) Hammond Jr and Christopher Hammond.
Harmon served in the US Navy from 10 Dec 1941 to 22 Oct 1947, being honorably discharged. He received several medals including: American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, European African Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He also received commendation for heroism and bravery.
Harmon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lona Beard Hammond; daughters, Brenda Wicker and Patty Weber (Scott); three grandchildren: Tricia McCurry (Eddie), Brian McCurry (Maribelle) and Suzanne Barabas (Brian); four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Kira, Alexis and Jacqueline; sister, Helen Beard; brother, Harold Hammond; and his special great grandniece Paige Kosinski.
Friends may call from 11am until 1pm on Monday, April 28, 2014 at Flanner and Buchanan- Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in the Good Shepherd Chapel, where funeral services will immediately follow at 1pm, with Dr. Thomas E. Griffith officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
