H. E. "Whitey" Rollins 86, passed away November 17, 2011. He was born on April 19, 1925 in Porterdale, Georgia to Harvey and Mae Taylor Rollins. Whitey married Elizabeth Holder in 1950, and in July they celebrated their 61st anniversary. In 1965 Whitey and Liz moved their family to Indianapolis where he opened an office for McDonough Construction. In 1977 he founded Rollins Construction Company, which he managed with his son, until retiring in 1992. Through hard work and honesty, the company made a name for itself in industrial and health care construction, and continues today.
Whitey liked golf, traveling, reading, puzzles, and watching IU basketball, the Colts and Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed cruises and celebrated his 80th birthday sailing to Alaska with family. He was a member of Castleton United Methodist Church and a life member of Eastside Sertoma. Always a southerner, Whitey and Liz spent the past 19 winters in Naples, Florida. He is survived by his wife; son, Garry (Julie); daughter, Suzanne Stanis (Bob); and three grandchildren: Taylor Rollins (Jessica), Courtney Garrison (Joe), and Elizabeth Stanis.
Whitey's wonderful sense of humor and joy of life made him many friends. Please join us in celebrating his life on Monday November 21. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. at Castleton United Methodist Church. Whitey requested that you remember him by sharing your memories and wearing casual dress.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Wheeler Mission, Community Health Network Foundation or your favorite charity.
You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story.
